A major fire has engulfed the Techiman Central Market in Ghana’s Bono East Region, causing significant damage to numerous shops and goods. Eyewitnesses report that the blaze has severely affected the market, with extensive property loss. Emergency services are on the scene, working to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to surrounding areas.

Alex King Nartey, Divisional Officer I from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), confirmed that efforts to control the inferno are ongoing. The fire at Techiman adds to a series of devastating market fires in the country. On January 2, a similar blaze destroyed hundreds of stalls at Accra’s Kantamanto Market, one of the largest secondhand clothing hubs globally, causing significant disruption to local traders.

The recent spate of fires has raised concerns about fire safety and the vulnerability of commercial markets across Ghana. Authorities have launched investigations into the causes of the fires and are exploring measures to prevent future incidents.
