A statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region, has been completely vandalised. This marks the second instance of damage to the monument, which was originally unveiled to honour Akufo-Addo’s contributions during his presidency.

The first act of vandalism occurred on December 16, 2024, when unidentified individuals damaged the statue’s leg. The monument was promptly repaired, but no arrests were made, leaving the motives behind the attack unclear.

The latest incident comes just days after Akufo-Addo left office, with the statue now entirely toppled. Erected during his presidency, the statue symbolised his government’s efforts to improve healthcare and infrastructure in the region. Its placement near the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital was intended to highlight the administration’s commitment to expanding access to medical care and resources in underserved areas.

Authorities are investigating the vandalism.
