Daniel Yao Domelevo, a member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, has clarified that the committee’s work is focused on validating claims, not conducting investigations.
Speaking on Joy News’ Upfront on Wednesday, January 15, the former Auditor General explained that the committee’s primary task is to verify information related to state land and property issues before reporting to President John Mahama.
“Our mission is essentially a validation exercise,” Domelevo said. “We cannot include claims, such as those from the Lomotey/Adotey family about their demolished property, in our report without first verifying them on the ground.”
Domelevo’s comments come after the ORAL Committee visited a site in North Labone, where a property belonging to the Lomotey/Adotey family was illegally demolished in 2024. A family representative recounted the trauma of losing their home and the ongoing struggle for justice, with the family still financing private security after the demolition, despite a letter from the Lands Commission admitting to a mistake in allocating the land.
Domelevo emphasized the distinction between validation and investigation, stating, “Validation is about confirming what exists on the ground. If this were an investigation, we would be interviewing all parties and seeking answers. For now, we are gathering data to ensure accuracy in our report.”
He also clarified that the committee is not accusing anyone of wrongdoing. “Our role is not to accuse,” he said. “Before establishing any guilt, there must be an investigation. Our job is to verify, not to judge.”
Domelevo further addressed confusion surrounding the committee’s role, noting that its validation work should not be conflated with the investigative duties of other bodies such as national security. “We have no control over their operations,” he said.
The ORAL team assured the Lomotey/Adotey family that their case would be included in the report to President Mahama, highlighting their loss and advocating for a resolution. Domelevo’s remarks underline the committee’s commitment to accurate reporting and thorough validation of claims related to state land and property issues.
