A violent clash between illegal miners and military personnel guarding the AngloGold Obuasi Gold Mine has left several people dead and many others injured. Preliminary reports suggest the confrontation erupted when miners attempted to access one of the company’s mine shafts, reportedly demanding access to a concession for their operations.

While the exact cause of the altercation remains unclear, gunfire was exchanged during the incident, which took place on Saturday night. Unconfirmed sources indicate that at least 10 miners were killed, with numerous others sustaining injuries.

Disturbing footage obtained by Citi News shows injured individuals with varying degrees of harm, as well as others who appear lifeless. Additionally, several vehicles belonging to AngloGold Obuasi Mine were reported to have been vandalized, alongside other damages to company facilities.

Tensions have remained high in the region, as AngloGold Obuasi has long faced challenges with illegal miners encroaching on its concessions.
