President John Dramani Mahama has thanked the Ashanti Region for its significant contribution to his victory in the 2024 presidential election, despite the region not traditionally being considered a stronghold of his party.

Speaking at the first Akwasidae Festival of the year, Mahama expressed appreciation for the region’s support, which he said played a crucial role in his overwhelming electoral success. “Although many might not see it as the stronghold of my party, the confidence and votes from the Ashanti Region were pivotal to my victory,” Mahama said.

The president also pledged to ensure that the Ashanti Region receives its fair share of national resources, stressing his administration’s commitment to balanced and equitable development across the country.

Mahama is scheduled to meet privately with Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, with the ongoing Bawku conflict expected to be a key issue for discussion. The president aims to engage traditional authorities in efforts to find a lasting solution to the prolonged conflict.
