President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to ensure that appointments within his administration are guided by merit, competence, and regional balance, following concerns over the perceived exclusion of Ho Central indigenes in his recent ministerial selections.

Speaking during his “Thank You” tour in Ho on January 24, Mahama addressed the dissatisfaction that arose after the vandalism of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) office in the region, allegedly by individuals frustrated with the lack of representation in his cabinet appointments.

The President acknowledged the region’s high expectations, particularly regarding government positions, and reassured Volta Region residents that their contributions would be recognized. “I also recognize the anticipation of appointments from this region, and as has been said, so far so good,” he stated. “Let me assure you that your contributions and talents have not been overlooked.”

Mahama emphasized that future appointments would prioritize key principles such as merit, competence, regional balance, gender equity, and availability to serve. He also reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the region’s long-standing developmental challenges.

“The Volta Region has long been a victim of unfulfilled promises,” Mahama said. “But I assure you that this era of neglect will end under this administration.”

The President’s comments were met with a positive reception, as many residents expressed hope that his leadership would bring a renewed focus on meeting the region’s developmental needs.
