Dr. Eric Nkansah has been dismissed from his role as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), sources within the government have confirmed.

Dr. Nkansah, who assumed the position in January 2023, has a diverse professional background, having worked as a subject teacher at Christian Education Complex Junior High School and Kintampo Senior High School between 2000 and 2006. He later moved to Barclays Bank (now Absa), where he worked as a Sales Manager for six years. In addition, Dr. Nkansah lectured part-time at the Business School of Garden City University College in Kumasi from 2010.

The government has appointed Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, the Provost of the College of Education at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), as the new Director-General of GES. Professor Davis, an experienced academic and administrator, is expected to provide strong leadership and bring new insights to the challenges facing Ghana’s education sector.

The change in leadership is seen as part of the government’s efforts to address ongoing issues and drive reforms in the country’s education system.
