The People’s National Congress (PNC) has set up an 11-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Electoral Commission’s decision to disqualify its flagbearer, Bernard Monah, from running in the 2024 presidential election.

In addition to the investigation, the committee will engage party members from all 276 constituencies to assess where the party went wrong and explore how it can overcome challenges in preparation for the 2028 elections. “We need to place PNC as the next party to govern Ghana in 2029 and beyond,” Monah stated, speaking to the media in Kumasi after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

The move follows a decision by the High Court in Accra, which dismissed a lawsuit challenging Monah’s disqualification. In the wake of the court ruling, the PNC has thrown its support behind the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Mahama.

The committee’s work will also include evaluating whether the PNC’s support for the NDC has been mutually beneficial or whether it’s a one-sided partnership. “We are poised to win the 2028 elections, hence, our decision to hit the ground running without any delay,” Monah added on January 27.

The committee is expected to present its findings to the NEC within the next two months.
