Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister-designate for Defence, has assured the Appointments Committee of Parliament that he would uphold impartiality in his duties to the nation if confirmed for the position.

During his appearance before the committee, Omane Boamah was asked whether he would step down from his role as Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to ensure fairness. In his response, he clarified that his tenure in the role had already concluded.

“No Ghanaian should have any fear about my impartiality. In fact, I could even serve as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) and remain impartial—that’s simply who I am,” Omane Boamah stated confidently.

He went on to explain that his decision to serve as the NDC’s director of elections was solely for the 2024 general elections, and that after the elections, he had already communicated to the party that his work was done.

“We even discussed internally and have decided who will succeed me in the role,” he added.

Omane Boamah’s remarks seek to reassure Ghanaians that his commitment to impartiality remains intact, regardless of his political affiliations.
