Oliver Barker-Vormawor’s legal team is defending his recent comments about alleged bribery, insisting that the statement was not intended to target the Appointments Committee.

Appearing before the Committee on Wednesday, January 29, Barker-Vormawor’s lawyer, Nana Ato Dadzie, explained that his client’s post about money being exchanged for ministerial appointees’ approval was meant to highlight broader misconduct, not to vilify the Committee itself.

“This statement has been misinterpreted,” Dadzie said. “It was never meant to attack the Committee but rather to expose misconduct involving third parties that is impacting the Committee’s work.”

Dadzie also expressed regret on behalf of his client, apologizing for the confusion and saying Barker-Vormawor is ready to withdraw the post. “As a supporter of democracy, he is fully prepared to apologize and retract the statement,” he added.

According to the defense, the statement aligns with the principles of whistleblowing, with Dadzie emphasizing that Barker-Vormawor is exercising his right as a citizen to speak out against alleged corruption.

“He has the right to expose wrongdoing and advocate for change,” Dadzie concluded.
