Gifty Klenam, the former Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim in the Eastern Region, has officially joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC), marking a significant shift in her political journey. Klenam, who represented the NPP for two terms in 2008 and 2012, announced her decision after receiving her NDC membership card in the Volta Region’s Anlo Constituency.
Reflecting on her decision, Klenam explained that her move to the NDC was rooted in a shared ideological vision and confidence in the party’s future. “After consulting with my family, I decided to join the NDC because it aligns with my values and vision for mother Ghana,” she said in a statement to the press.
Klenam, who had previously backed Alan Kyerematen during the 2024 general election campaign after his departure from the NPP, also expressed strong support for the NDC’s 2024 manifesto. She believes the party’s plans offer the best roadmap for Ghana’s development, particularly under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama.
As part of her new political chapter, Klenam is focused on empowering local communities and creating opportunities to help curb the growing trend of Ghanaian youth seeking better opportunities abroad.
