Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister nominee, has denied claims made by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin that he was not scheduled to appear before the Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30, and was instead “smuggled” into the chamber.

In a statement following his appearance before the Committee on Friday, January 31, Ablakwa rejected the allegations, asserting that he had been formally invited to the session. “I am not some hooligan who will be smuggled into the Appointments Committee’s meeting to be vetted,” he said, expressing his frustration with the accusations.

Ablakwa also questioned the implications of the claims on his standing, pointing out that his chiefs and ambassadors had expressed concern over the legitimacy of his vetting. He demanded an apology from Afenyo-Markin, calling the allegations “unfounded” and harmful to his reputation.

Earlier, Afenyo-Markin had addressed the media, stating that Ablakwa and other nominees were not scheduled to appear before the Committee on Thursday and raised doubts about the validity of his appearance. However, the Chairman of the Appointments Committee later confirmed that Ablakwa had been properly invited and offered an apology to him and his entourage for the confusion.
