Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim has defended the recent raids conducted by National Security operatives on the homes of former officials from the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, calling them a standard part of ongoing investigations.
Her comments come after the home of former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison was raided by National Security on March 19, 2025. That same day, journalist Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah was reportedly arrested, though he was later released. In addition, the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was allegedly searched by security personnel back in February 2025.
These raids have sparked backlash from NPP leaders, including Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who has stressed the importance of respecting democratic values and human rights.
While Shamima Muslim awaits a full briefing on the specifics of Dr. Addison’s case, she emphasized in an interview on TV3’s ‘New Day’ that such actions are part of a larger information-gathering process in ongoing investigations.
“I’m yet to receive a full briefing on the matter, but there are investigations underway, and there are individuals of interest who will be invited to assist in the process,” Muslim said. “There are various methods of gathering information, and one of them is visiting the homes of those involved.”
She also highlighted that these actions are being conducted within the confines of the law, stressing that following proper procedures ensures transparency and accountability in governance.
“We must ensure due process is followed in every step, and once that’s done, there should be no issue,” she added.
