Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is receiving medical treatment after being injured in a reported shooting incident at the residence of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, on Sunday.
According to sources familiar with the incident, Ms Safo was at the property when gunfire erupted amid tensions linked to a leadership succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo movement following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo.
Witnesses said armed individuals opened fire during a gathering reportedly organised to support the installation of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the movement’s new leader.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that about 15 rounds of ammunition were discharged during the incident.
Sources close to Ms Safo alleged that one of the bullets grazed her near the neck. She was taken to a medical facility for treatment and is said to be in a stable condition.
The incident comes amid an ongoing dispute within the Kristo Asafo family over succession arrangements following the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo. The disagreement has reportedly led to legal challenges, with some family members opposing efforts to elevate Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena to the leadership of the organisation.
0The Ghana Police Service has not yet issued an official statement on the incident. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported shooting and establish the facts of the case.
