Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has voiced her frustration with the party’s disciplinary committee after it postponed her scheduled hearing without informing her in advance.

Miss Safo was summoned to appear before the committee following comments she made on JoyNewsThe Pulse show, which the party leadership deemed a breach of its directive to prevent statements that could cause internal divisions.

Upon receiving the summons, Madam Safo arrived at the NPP headquarters in Accra on April 7, prepared for the hearing. She was met by a lone party official, with no disciplinary committee in session. Some party supporters had gathered at the office in solidarity, only to find the event had been called off without prior notice.

The lack of communication left  Adwoa Safo particularly upset. She had been served the summons letter on a Sunday but was not informed of any changes to the proceedings. “There was no committee sitting today,”  Adwoa Safo explained. “I had an engagement with a national party officer, but no hearing took place. Why wasn’t I informed of the change? Why wasn’t I contacted directly?”

As a lawyer, Madam Safo emphasized that a disciplinary hearing presupposes an accusation of wrongdoing, and the failure to hold a hearing after summoning her publicly raised concerns about the seriousness of the matter. “Why ridicule me publicly and then tell me the committee isn’t even sitting?” she asked. “The message being sent is that I’ve done something wrong, but when I show up, there’s nothing happening.”

Adwoa Safo further criticized the handling of the situation, noting that the NPP needed to take such matters more seriously. “This could have been managed much better,” she said. “I came ready for the hearing, but now I find myself with no committee, no hearing, and no explanation.”

Despite her frustrations, Madam Safo reaffirmed her commitment to the NPP, expressing her willingness to attend any future hearings. “I will be available to appear before the party whenever I’m called upon,” she concluded.

The episode highlights ongoing tensions within the NPP, as the party navigates internal disputes and attempts to maintain discipline and unity.
