Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team, led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, of using drones to conduct surveillance over his private properties.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Probe on Sunday, February 2, 2025, the Effutu MP revealed that he had been informed by associates of drone activity over his beachfront property in Winneba and his residence in Abelenkpe. Despite the repeated reports, Afenyo-Markin said he chose to remain silent, stressing that all his assets were legally acquired and that he had nothing to hide.

“I kept quiet about it. I managed it,” Afenyo-Markin said. He described how a drone was flown from a community center near the ‘nshorna’ area in Winneba, with one of his workers spotting it. He added, “I told them to ignore it.”

Afenyo-Markin claimed that the surveillance was not limited to Winneba. He also mentioned drone sightings around his Abelenkpe home, saying that even police officers had reported similar activity to him. “What business do drones have at the Minority Leader’s residence?” he questioned.

The accusations come after Ablakwa mentioned details of Afenyo-Markin’s properties during his vetting process on January 31, 2025. Afenyo-Markin recounted that he had previously raised concerns with Ablakwa, suggesting that certain disclosures were excessive and could be resolved through concessions.

Additionally, Afenyo-Markin rejected claims by Ablakwa that his lands in Winneba were state-owned, calling it a misrepresentation. “My lands in Winneba are not state lands,” he asserted.
