John Oti Kwabena Bless, Member of Parliament for Nkwanta North, has accused Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin of inciting the disturbances during the contentious vetting session on Thursday, January 30.

Testifying before an investigative committee, Oti Bless claimed that Afenyo-Markin intentionally failed to intervene as his fellow party members engaged in violent behavior, ultimately resulting in the destruction of public property. “A leader who stands by and watches his members vandalize and destroy public property without taking action is just as guilty as those involved,” Oti Bless stated.

The Nkwanta North MP also alleged that Afenyo-Markin ignored multiple pleas from other Minority members, including Dr. Afriyie, the Minority Chief Whip, and Frank Annoh-Dompreh, who had sought to have health minister nominee Kwabena Mintah Akandoh vetted that evening. According to Oti Bless, both Dr. Afriyie and Annoh-Dompreh approached Afenyo-Markin with the request, but the Minority Leader rejected it, stating, “whatever will happen, should happen.”

Oti Bless argued that, in a parliamentary setting, members take their cues from leadership, and Afenyo-Markin’s refusal to act contributed directly to the chaos that ensued. “What I saw was that the Minority Leader instigated his people to misbehave,” he concluded.
