Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has raised strong objections to the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee, labeling it as “illegal and unconstitutional.”

In remarks made during the debate on the approval of the first batch of President John Mahama’s ministerial nominees on January 21, 2025, Afenyo-Markin urged Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister-Designate, to reassess the committee’s establishment. He emphasized that existing state institutions should be allowed to fulfill their roles without interference, warning that the formation of such a body undermines Ghana’s democratic principles.

Afenyo-Markin expressed concern that bypassing established institutions could undermine public confidence in the country’s governance system. He also urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to avoid repeating the mistakes of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration by adhering strictly to constitutional norms and democratic processes.

“The ORAL committee, which claims to be pursuing corruption, must be cautioned,” Afenyo-Markin said. “It is unconstitutional and illegal. I trust that Dr. Ayine, upon taking office, will review this matter and restore order, ensuring that state institutions with the legal mandate carry out their duties according to due process.”

He further emphasized the importance of justice for all, stressing that the current government should not repeat past errors made by the NPP.
