Media personality Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, popularly known as Afia Schwarzenegger, has broken her silence following a GH¢10 million defamation lawsuit filed against her by National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.
In a statement posted on her official Instagram account on Monday, July 28, Afia Schwarzenegger dismissed the suit as “frivolous” and accused Mr. Gyamfi of attempting to “intimidate and silence” her.
“I have seen the so-called lawsuit making rounds on social media. Let me make it clear: I am not the kind of woman who bows to threats or cheap publicity stunts,” she wrote. “This country upholds free speech, and I will continue to speak my mind without fear or favour.”
The lawsuit, filed at the High Court in Accra, stems from remarks Afia Schwarzenegger allegedly made during a recent live broadcast, which Mr. Gyamfi claims were defamatory and damaging to his reputation. In his writ, the NDC Communications Officer is seeking GH¢10 million in damages, a public apology, and a perpetual injunction restraining Afia from further making similar comments.
Afia Schwarzenegger, however, insists she will not retract her statements. Instead, she has hinted at meeting Mr. Gyamfi “squarely in court.”
“Let the courts decide. I am ready to defend myself because I have done nothing wrong,” she said.
The lawsuit has sparked widespread conversation on social media, with many debating the implications for free speech, political accountability, and the growing trend of defamation cases involving public figures.
Legal proceedings are expected to commence in the coming weeks.
