Akuapem Poloo Wins Discovery of the Year at 2024 Ghana Movie Awards

Ghanaian actress and socialite Rosemond Brown, known by her stage name Akuapem Poloo, was awarded Discovery of the Year at the 2024 Ghana Movie Awards on January 18, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Poloo was recognized for her performance in Widow’s Gift, a film directed and produced by actress Juliet Ibrahim. The award highlights emerging talent in the Ghanaian film industry, with Poloo’s portrayal in the film standing out among the nominees, which included Frank Ntiamoah, Mawena Azumah, Martina Dwamenq, Sherita Adu, Quesh, and Augustina Aboabo.

In her acceptance speech, Poloo expressed gratitude to Allah, Ibrahim, and the Ghana Movie Awards for the honor, noting the significant role of industry producers who had supported her career.

The awards ceremony featured a notable presence of international movie stars, including Ramsey Noah, Jim Ike, Jackie Appiah, and Adjetey Annang, underscoring the event’s growing stature within Africa’s entertainment industry.
