President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed confidence in the future of Ghana as he prepares to step down, declaring that he is leaving behind “a Ghana that is working.”

Delivering his final State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Friday, 3 January 2025, the outgoing president reflected on the achievements of his two-term administration, emphasising the country’s progress in sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, digital transformation, energy, and infrastructure.

He praised the collective efforts of Ghanaians, attributing the nation’s successes to unity, resilience, and determination. “These achievements are not mine alone. They belong to every Ghanaian who has played a role in nation-building,” he said.

Akufo-Addo expressed optimism about the country’s future, highlighting the steady recovery of the economy, the strengthening of institutions, and a stable, democratic environment. He pointed to the empowerment of youth, the thriving arts sector, and the safety and dignity of the elderly as key indicators of progress.

“I am happy to hand over a Ghana that is safe, secure, united, and firmly grounded in democratic principles,” he said. “Despite global challenges, we have shown remarkable resilience, and I leave behind a Ghana that is working.”

He concluded with a message of hope for future generations, asserting that the foundation laid during his presidency would inspire continued growth and development. “I take my final bow in the knowledge that our nation will go from strength to strength,” he added.

Akufo-Addo also rejected claims from critics who have argued that Ghana is in financial distress, referring to them as “propagandists.”

“I leave behind a Ghana that is thriving and poised for continued success,” he said.
