The Appointments Committee has formally apologized to Ghanaians after Thursday evening’s chaotic scenes during the vetting of nominees Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
What was meant to be a routine vetting session quickly descended into disorder when tensions flared between the Minority and Majority Caucuses. The Minority proposed rescheduling the vetting to Friday, citing concerns over the timing, but the Majority rejected this suggestion, insisting that the vetting continue as planned. The disagreement escalated, with Minority members disrupting proceedings by breaking tables and microphones in an effort to delay the process.
Despite the disruption, the Majority held firm, arguing that the vetting was scheduled to proceed without interruption. As the situation grew more tense, security was heightened in the conference room.
In their apology, the Appointments Committee expressed regret over the incident and assured the public that steps would be taken to prevent future disruptions. The committee stressed its commitment to ensuring that the vetting process remains orderly, transparent, and respectful.
The apology also highlighted the committee’s dedication to maintaining accountability and urged all members to cooperate in order to uphold the dignity of parliamentary proceedings moving forward.
