The Appointments Committee has summoned legal practitioner Oliver Barker-Vormawor to appear before the committee on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, to respond to allegations that some members of the committee demand bribes to approve ministerial nominees.

The committee strongly denied the claims made by Barker-Vormawor, who accused members of soliciting payments from nominees. The accusations came to light as the committee prepared for the vetting of Defence Minister-designate Dr. Omane Boamah on January 28, 2025.

Chairman of the committee, Bernard Ahiafor, expressed his displeasure with the allegations, insisting that the committee does not tolerate such claims without evidence. “We invite Oliver Barker-Vormawor to appear before the committee tomorrow at noon to provide evidence on whether the vetting committee or any member demands money before vetting or approval,” Ahiafor stated.

Minority members of the committee, however, voiced concerns that their reputations had been damaged by the accusations. They called for the vetting process to be paused until the matter was addressed. “Our reputation is at stake,” said Minority Chief Whip.

In contrast, Majority MPs argued that the vetting should proceed while the issue was dealt with, asserting that Parliament should not be obstructed by unsubstantiated allegations. The disagreement caused a temporary delay in the vetting process.
