In a dramatic pre-dawn operation on Wednesday, March 19, a group of armed men, believed to be operatives from the National Security Secretariat, stormed the private residence of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, in the upscale Roman Ridge area of Accra.

The operation, which unfolded around 5 a.m., saw approximately 15 soldiers arriving in three vehicles, heavily armed and wielding rifles. Upon entering the premises, the operatives quickly disabled the residence’s CCTV system before demanding that Dr. Addison lead them to alleged “vaults” hidden within the property. Dr. Addison reportedly denied the existence of any such vaults or caches of money.

Despite his firm denial, the operatives proceeded to ransack the house, leaving it in a state of disarray. When their search yielded no results, they seized four of Dr. Addison’s vehicles, leaving only two behind. The vehicles were later removed by National Security drivers and parked opposite Jokers Club in Labadi, where the family was instructed to retrieve them later in the evening.
In addition to the vehicles, the operatives also confiscated the CCTV monitor and control unit before departing. Sources indicate that Dr. Addison and his family were deeply shaken by the early-morning intrusion.
This incident follows a similar raid in February 2025, when armed operatives reportedly entered the residence of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta. In that case, the operatives, including military personnel and plainclothes officers, conducted the operation without prior notice or a warrant while Mr. Ofori-Atta was overseas for medical treatment. The raid caused distress to Ofori-Atta’s household staff and severely impacted his reputation.
Both incidents have raised questions about the legal basis and transparency of such high-profile operations by national security forces.
