The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on Ghanaians to disregard false prophecies that could jeopardise the nation’s peace as the December elections approach.

Speaking on his behalf during the annual prayer gathering on November 29, Chief of Sewua Nana Kwaku Amankwa Sarkodie urged religious leaders to focus on promoting national unity, rather than making divisive predictions that could fuel tension or conflict.

He stressed the importance of vigilance in safeguarding Ghana’s stability during the election period. “Ghanaians must focus on what unites us and ignore divisive and false prophecies,” Sarkodie said.

The Asantehene’s message comes amid concerns about political tensions, as some religious figures have made prophecies seemingly aligned with either the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Sarkodie reminded that both parties have supporters with differing views and urged for inclusivity and peace.

The annual prayer gathering also included prayers for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate. Meanwhile, schoolchildren in Kumasi have taken to the streets to advocate for peace, underscoring the need for harmony during the electoral season.

These calls for peace come shortly after political parties signed a peace pact, reaffirming their commitment to a peaceful election process.
