Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has called on Members of Parliament (MPs) to support the approval of Ghana’s 2025 budget, underscoring the importance of parliamentary backing in implementing key economic policies aimed at promoting growth.
In a speech at the 2025 Post-Budget Workshop on March 15, Dr. Forson stressed that parliamentary approval is essential for operationalizing the fiscal measures outlined in the budget. He highlighted that the government’s proposed revenue and expenditure strategies are central to achieving fiscal stability and growth targets.
“We have outlined a number of revenue and expenditure measures in the 2025 budget to support our fiscal objectives, and I urge this esteemed House, particularly my colleagues, the Members of Parliament, to support these measures and the passage of related legislation at the earliest opportunity,” Dr. Forson said.
Among the key initiatives mentioned by the Finance Minister were the Agriculture for Economic Transformation program, the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board, the “Big Push” project, and the introduction of a 24-hour economy. These initiatives, he argued, are crucial for sustainable economic development.
“Proposals such as the 24-hour economy policy and the GH₵10 billion Big Push policy will drive inclusive growth and job creation. The establishment of the Ghana Gold Board will support foreign exchange inflows and gold reserve accumulation, benefiting the country,” Dr. Forson added.
The Finance Minister’s appeal comes as Parliament prepares to deliberate on the 2025 budget, with hopes for bipartisan support to ensure the smooth implementation of the proposed economic measures.
