Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Tuesday,July 8, led a high-ranking delegation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the family home of the late Ernest Kumi, Member of Parliament for Akwatia, who passed away recently under undisclosed circumstances.
The NPP officials, clad in somber black attire, arrived at the family’s Spintex residence to offer condolences and express solidarity with the bereaved. The visit marks one of the first formal party responses following Kumi’s death, which has prompted a wave of mourning across the political landscape.
Dr. Bawumia was joined by several prominent party figures, including Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, former Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, and former Tema East MP Daniel Titus-Glover. The delegation took time to engage with grieving relatives before signing a condolence book opened in Kumi’s memory.
Mr. Kumi, a rising figure within the NPP, was widely regarded as a pragmatic legislator and a loyal party stalwart. His passing has left a notable vacancy in the Akwatia constituency and within the party’s parliamentary ranks.
