Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, the First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, has officially begun his leave before the conclusion of his contract. The leave, which takes effect from February 5, 2025, has been approved by President John Mahama, according to a statement from the Bank of Ghana’s Communication Department.

Appointed to his first term as First Deputy Governor on August 7, 2017, Dr. Opoku-Afari was reappointed for a second term on August 7, 2021. His tenure, in line with the Bank of Ghana Act, will officially end on August 6, 2025, after completing two full terms in office.

The Bank of Ghana expressed its gratitude for Dr. Opoku-Afari’s service, offering him well wishes for the future as he takes this step. The statement also acknowledged the significant role he played in the bank’s operations during his time at the helm.

Dr. Opoku-Afari’s early leave marks a shift just months before his tenure officially concludes, but his contributions to the Bank of Ghana and the country’s financial system remain well-regarded.
