The Chief Executive Officer of NextGen InfraCo, Tony Mintah, has been declared missing by the Ghana Police Service, sparking concerns ahead of the country’s planned rollout of 5G services.

NextGen InfraCo, the company tasked with implementing Ghana’s transition to the 5G spectrum, has been at the forefront of the nation’s digital upgrade efforts. The disappearance of Mr Mintah occurred under mysterious circumstances, with police confirming that he was last seen being taken from the premises of the National Communications Authority (NCA) by unidentified individuals.

The incident has raised alarm as it comes just days before the scheduled launch of Ghana’s 5G service on November 1, a move announced earlier by Communication Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful. The police are urging the public to remain calm and are appealing for any information that could assist in locating Mr Mintah. A dedicated hotline has been established for tips, with citizens encouraged to call 0547927272.

NextGen InfraCo was officially launched in June 2024 with a mandate to deliver affordable 5G mobile broadband services across Ghana, a key component of the government’s push towards digital transformation. The sudden disappearance of the company’s CEO has cast uncertainty over the forthcoming rollout of the 5G network.
