Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Ghana, has pledged to approach his role with “utmost seriousness” and a strong commitment to upholding peace and security across the nation.

In a speech delivered shortly after his swearing-in on Friday, March 14,COP Yohuno emphasized that he fully understands the weight of his responsibilities. “I will approach my new role with utmost seriousness, fully aware of the responsibilities it entails,” he stated, highlighting his resolve to meet the public’s expectations.

COP Yohuno outlined that professionalism, transparency, and accountability would form the core principles of his leadership, setting the tone for a new era of law enforcement that seeks to foster peace and security throughout Ghana.

The ceremony, held at the Jubilee House, followed the dismissal of former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. The announcement of Yohuno’s appointment was made public through a press release from the office of the Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Thursday, March 13.

President John Dramani Mahama swore in COP Yohuno, citing constitutional provisions (Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution) and confirming the appointment after consultations with the Council of State.

As Ghana faces numerous security challenges, the appointment of Yohuno signals a new chapter in the country’s policing, with hopes that his leadership will meet the growing expectations for improved law enforcement and national stability.
