The High Court has scheduled a hearing for December 27, 2024, in the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s lawsuit aimed at halting the Electoral Commission’s (EC) re-collation and re-declaration of parliamentary results in nine disputed constituencies.

The NDC argues that the EC has overstepped its authority by carrying out this process, which they claim is procedurally flawed.

The constituencies involved in the dispute include Nsawam Adoagyiri, Dome-Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, Obuasi East, Techiman South, Ahafo Ano North, and Ahafo Ano South West.

On December 21, the EC began re-collating the results at its Greater Accra Regional Office. This process resulted in the overturning of the initial outcomes in seven of the nine constituencies, with the revised results favoring candidates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dr. Benjamin Bannor-Bio, the EC’s Director of Electoral Services, told JoyNews that the Commission had not received any court order preventing the re-collation process. “We do not have any knowledge of such a petition,” he stated.

In a press briefing on December 13, Samuel Tettey, the EC’s Deputy Chair for Operations, explained that the initial results did not comply with the regulations set out in CI 127.

The EC has assured that the remaining two constituency results will be declared before the new Parliament is inaugurated on January 7, 2025.
