Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has issued a stern warning to citizens against any form of electoral misconduct ahead of the country’s general elections in December.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new police station in Akyem-Manso in the Eastern Region, Dr. Dampare assured Ghanaians of the police service’s readiness to ensure a peaceful election period. He emphasised that individuals found engaging in unlawful activities would face the full force of the law.

“Do not be tempted to cause trouble during the elections, because my officers will not hesitate to act,” he said. “Those who may urge you to stir up confusion will abandon you once you are arrested—they will simply turn off their phones.”

The IGP urged voters to exercise their democratic rights responsibly and with respect for others, stressing the importance of conducting elections without violence or interference.

Highlighting the police force’s measures to address early signs of potential unrest, he reassured the public of their commitment to maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process.

“We are fully prepared, and I can confidently say that the elections will be peaceful,” Dr. Dampare stated, calling on all Ghanaians to uphold the integrity of the democratic process.

He concluded by encouraging citizens to cooperate with authorities to ensure a safe and secure environment for free and fair elections.
