Prominent Nigerian music producer and record executive Don Jazzy has advised men to prioritise confirming the paternity of their children over traditional naming ceremonies.

The artist, known for his influential voice in the entertainment industry, shared his views on social media, stating, “DNA test is more important than naming ceremony.” His comments arrive amid growing public conversations on paternity testing, spurred by recent, high-profile cases of alleged paternity fraud.

This statement also comes against the backdrop of a scandal involving Equatorial Guinea official Baltasar Engonga, who was dismissed from his role as Director of the Financial Investigation Bureau (ANIF) following revelations of over 400 explicit videos reportedly involving multiple women. Allegations suggest that some of these women were linked to prominent figures, including family members of the president, the Attorney General, and other high-ranking officials.

As the Equatorial Guinean government continues its investigation, the scandal has intensified public interest in issues around trust, privacy, and family. Don Jazzy’s remarks add a further layer to the ongoing debate about the value of DNA testing in establishing family connections.
