Domelevo:New ministers should’ve declared assets before swearing in

Former Auditor General Dominic Yao Domelevo has criticized the recent swearing-in of new ministers, saying they should have declared their assets before assuming office.

During an interview with Joy FM on January 23, Domelevo said that requiring ministers to disclose their assets and liabilities before taking office would promote transparency and help restore public trust in the government.

His comments come after six new ministers were sworn in on January 22 by President John Dramani Mahama, who encouraged them to declare their assets. However, Domelevo argues that this step should have been taken prior to their swearing-in.

“If I were the president, thankfully I am not the president, but I would have told them, after going through vetting, to go and declare your assets and liabilities before I swear you in,” he said.

Domelevo believes that such a move would be a crucial step in the fight against corruption, helping to set a tone of accountability in the political landscape. “This simple yet powerful measure can serve as a cornerstone in Ghana’s fight against corruption and set the tone for a more accountable government,” he added.
