Dr Shafic Suleman Appointed Acting Executive Secretary of PURC

Dr Shafic Suleman has been appointed as the Acting Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), effective immediately. The appointment, made by President John Dramani Mahama, is in line with the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission Act, 1997. Dr Suleman will serve in this capacity pending approval by the PURC Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

Dr Suleman, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast’s Institute for Oil and Gas Studies, brings a wealth of expertise in energy and sustainability, petroleum economics, and energy policy. His academic credentials include a PhD in Energy and Sustainability from De Montfort University, UK, and an MSc in Energy Management from Robert Gordon University, UK.

The PURC has expressed its full support for Dr Suleman, noting his extensive experience in teaching, research, and consultancy in the energy sector. The Commission emphasized its commitment to protecting the interests of consumers, utility service providers, and stakeholders across Ghana’s power and water sectors. Dr Suleman’s leadership is expected to drive forward the Commission’s strategic objectives during his tenure.
