The Electoral Commission (EC) has recalled ballot papers for the Eastern and Western Regions after a defaced ballot paper was discovered at the Checkpoint Printing House, the facility responsible for printing ballots for these areas.

The special voting exercise, originally scheduled for Monday, December 2, will now take place on Thursday, December 5, in the affected regions to allow time for reprinting and redistribution of the ballots.

At an emergency press briefing on Sunday, December 1, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa confirmed that the decision followed a report from National Security. The defaced ballot, which was meant to be destroyed, was found at the printing facility.

The EC has since begun reprinting the affected ballots and is implementing stringent measures to prevent any further incidents. Mensa reassured the public of the commission’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and credible election process.

The special voting exercise, which is designated for security personnel, election officials, and media practitioners, will proceed as planned nationwide, with the revised date only affecting voters in the Eastern and Western Regions.

The EC has urged voters and candidates to remain calm and cooperate during this resolution process.
