Edmond Kombat has been appointed as the new Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), stepping into the leadership role at a time when the refinery is facing serious operational and financial challenges.

Kombat’s appointment is seen as a pivotal move aimed at reviving TOR, which has struggled in recent years to meet the energy demands of both Ghana and the broader region. Known for his extensive experience in the energy and oil sectors, Kombat is expected to lead efforts to modernize and restructure the refinery’s operations.

In addition to overseeing the refinery’s operations, Kombat will work to secure much-needed private-sector partnerships to bring in capital and technical expertise. These efforts will be crucial in transforming TOR into a more efficient and sustainable player in the energy sector.

Kombat, a lawyer, entrepreneur, and Pan-Africanist, has a diverse and impressive career that spans multiple industries. He holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Harvard University and is the founder and chairman of the Edkom Group, a conglomerate with interests in agribusiness, energy, and real estate. His past roles include serving as an Energy Analyst at TOR, a Business and Energy Analyst at BOST, and a Financial Analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in London.

Kombat’s deep understanding of the energy sector and his entrepreneurial spirit position him well to lead TOR through its much-needed revitalization. With a focus on modernizing the refinery and seeking new partnerships, Kombat’s leadership could be the key to unlocking a more sustainable future for Ghana’s energy sector.
