Eight people have been killed, and 17 others were injured in a stabbing outside a school in eastern China, police say.
The attack occurred at Wuxi Yixing Arts and Crafts Vocational and Technical College in the city of Wuxi at about 18:30 local time (10:30 GMT).
Authorities said a 21-year-old man, who graduated from the school earlier this year, was arrested at the scene. He reportedly carried out the attack after failing to obtain his diploma due to poor exam results and being dissatisfied with his internship pay.
In a statement, police said the suspect confessed “without hesitation” and that an investigation was underway. Efforts are being made to support victims and manage the aftermath, they added.
The incident comes just days after another deadly attack in China. On Monday, at least 35 people were killed when a driver ploughed a car into a crowd at a stadium in Zhuhai, in the south of the country.
Police said the driver was reportedly unhappy with a divorce settlement.
Both incidents have sparked discussions on Chinese social media about a troubling trend of “revenge against society” attacks, where individuals act on personal grievances by targeting strangers.
