The Energy Minister,John Jinapor, confirmed that authorities have recovered 40 of the more than 1,300 missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). These containers, which were originally intended to be cleared at Tema Port, were traced to an Indian national who claims to have purchased them.
The missing containers were uncovered as part of an investigation into a significant discrepancy in ECG’s inventory. Following his arrest, the individual claimed he had purchased the containers last year. The 40 containers have since been moved to a secure location.
Authorities continue to investigate the matter, with Jinapor assuring that law enforcement agencies are committed to recovering the remaining missing containers and holding responsible parties accountable.
“The law enforcement agencies have made significant progress, and I commend their efforts,” Jinapor said. “We will continue to pursue this investigation, and the perpetrators will face legal consequences.”
The Minister also issued a stern warning to those involved, emphasizing that the containers represent state property and any future prosecution should not be perceived as political targeting. “These are state assets, and we will use every legal means necessary to retrieve them,” he added.
