A fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday at the Dodowa Market, destroying several metal container shops and their contents before emergency services managed to bring the blaze under control.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the fire began at approximately 1:25 a.m. local time on October 15 and rapidly spread through sections of the market. Fire crews from the Katamanso Fire Station, supported by reinforcements from Adenta and Madina, responded to the scene. The fire was contained by 3:06 a.m. and fully extinguished by 4:51 a.m.

Twelve metal containers were completely destroyed, while six others sustained partial damage. Firefighters succeeded in salvaging over 50 market sheds and several adjacent structures, limiting the overall impact of the incident.

No casualties or injuries were reported.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway. The GNFS commended the coordination of firefighting units under the leadership of Deputy Director of Operations ACFO II Osmond Anum and expressed appreciation for the support received from other emergency response agencies.

The Dodowa Market serves as a key trading hub in the Greater Accra Region, and while the financial cost of the damage has yet to be assessed, authorities have acknowledged the significant disruption to local commerce.
