A devastating fire at Suame Magazine in Kumasi has destroyed 25 shops and 34 vehicles, including buses and salon cars, in a late-night blaze on Friday, January 31, 2025. The fire, which tore through a workshop area housing spare parts stores and various repair shops, caused millions of cedis in damage.

Victims believe the fire may have been triggered by an electrical fault, with many now left to contend with significant losses. Some affected traders are devastated, unsure of how they will recover from the destruction of their businesses and vehicles.

While personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service responded to the scene, some traders expressed frustration over the delay in the response, arguing that a quicker intervention could have limited the extent of the damage.

Several artisans and workshop owners have also voiced concerns about the lack of a dedicated fire station in the area, with some pointing fingers at the Ghana National Association of Garages for not securing space for fire services. Given the large number of flammable materials and equipment in the area, local leaders are calling for immediate action to establish a fire station to better protect the workshop community in the future.
