A football fan has tragically lost his life following a violent incident at a Ghana Premier League match in Nsoatre, a suburb of the Bono Ahafo region. The fan, known as “Pooley,” is believed to have been an avid supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

According to reports, the 19th matchday fixture between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko took a dark turn when Pooley was fatally stabbed during the chaos. Asante Kotoko confirmed his death in a statement on Sunday evening, expressing their shock and grief over the incident.

“Tragically, one of our supporters, who was stabbed during the violence, has succumbed to his injuries at the hospital,” the club said, though the name of the hospital was not disclosed. They called the loss of life “senseless” and extended their deepest condolences to Pooley’s family, friends, and the entire Asante Kotoko community.

Social media videos of the aftermath showed Pooley in a pool of blood, though the exact circumstances surrounding the stabbing remain unclear. However, violent scenes were evident both on and off the pitch. Players from both teams were seen exchanging punches, and the altercation quickly escalated beyond the field. Fans fled for safety as missiles were thrown onto the pitch, and chaos unfolded in the stands.

In one disturbing moment, Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Camara, was seen chasing a man in a green shirt, exchanging blows before others intervened. The team’s captain, Justice Blay, appeared to throw a water bottle back into the crowd in the heat of the conflict. Despite the police presence, the situation quickly spiraled out of control.

The incident has sparked outrage and concern over the increasing violence at football matches in Ghana. Fans and authorities alike are calling for greater measures to ensure safety at sporting events, as the devastating death of Pooley has cast a dark shadow over the sport.
