Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the recall of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued under the previous Akufo-Addo administration. The decision, directed by President John Mahama, aims to ensure that the passports are being used properly and in line with current eligibility criteria.

The recall affects a wide range of individuals, including former ministers and their spouses, former members of Parliament, members of the Council of State, and retired justices of both the superior and lower courts. Additionally, former regional ministers, district chief executives, CEOs of state institutions, and board chairs and members are also required to return their passports.

The recall further extends to officials involved in the National Cathedral Project, former political ambassadors, and their dependents, as well as business leaders, religious figures, traditional leaders, and other former government officials.

Individuals holding official passports but not currently serving in an official capacity, in accordance with the Passports and Travel Certificates Act of 1967, are also included in the recall.

All affected individuals are required to return their Diplomatic and Service Passports to the Legal and Treaties Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by January 24, 2025.

The Ministry emphasized that the move is part of efforts to prevent misuse of these official travel documents and to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s diplomatic process.
