The former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has been transferred to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Accra, following his arrest over the weekend.

Mr Jumah was detained by police on Sunday, 29 June, while celebrating his birthday at a private residence in Kumasi. He was initially taken to the Ashanti Regional Police Command before being moved to the capital for further questioning.

His arrest forms part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial impropriety during his tenure at the state-owned distillery. According to sources familiar with the matter, the probe centres on suspected unauthorised asset sales and the acquisition of vehicles under questionable circumstances.

The development follows an earlier operation on 15 May, during which security officials attempted to retrieve government vehicles allegedly still in Mr Jumah’s possession. He was not at home at the time.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the case, but the investigation is said to be at an advanced stage.
