The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has successfully retained the Suhum parliamentary seat after a recount by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Following a review of the pink sheets, the EC declared Frank Asiedu Bekoe, the NPP candidate, as the Member of Parliament-elect for Suhum. Bekoe secured 16,855 votes, while his main rival, Prince Kwadwo Addo Tabiri of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), received 15,259 votes. Independent candidate Kwadjo Asante garnered 14,860 votes, and another independent, Emmanuel Dede Wiafe, received just 159 votes.

However, the NDC has rejected the outcome, calling the recount process “unlawful.” Rashid Tanko Computer, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, condemned the results, asserting, “We reject it. The NDC government will not respect these recollated results.”

The recount covered six polling centres in the Suhum constituency, with representatives of the independent candidate, Asante, also questioning the results. They claimed over 2,000 voters were disenfranchised due to the absence of pink sheets from various parties, including the EC.

The NPP is pushing for a recount in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency to be conducted on Thursday, while the NDC is requesting a postponement until December 13.

So far, the NPP has retained seats in Akwatia and Fanteakwa North.
