Mustapha Gbande, Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, has called for the immediate arrest of three key individuals linked to the disappearance of over 1,300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Tema Port.

Speaking on Eyewitness News,Mr. Gbande demanded that Alexander Afenyo-Markin, former Board Chairman of ECG; Matthew Opoku Prempeh, former Minister of Energy; and Samuel Dubik Mahama, former CEO of ECG, be held accountable for their alleged involvement in the scandal.

The missing containers, which were intended to provide essential electrical equipment for Ghana’s national power distribution, were reportedly shipped into the country but have mysteriously vanished.

A report revealing procurement irregularities within ECG exposed possible collusion among government officials and ECG executives. The report suggested that these figures either overlooked or failed to act on improper handling and questionable transactions surrounding the containers.

Gbande’s call for justice was clear: “We cannot continue to tolerate these instances of corruption. It is crucial that Afenyo-Markin, along with Samuel Dubik Mahama and Matthew Opoku Prempeh, are arrested immediately to restore accountability.”

The scandal has sparked widespread outrage, raising significant concerns about the handling of public assets and governance in a key sector of the economy.
