General Thomas Oppong-Peprah bids farewell as Chief of Defence Staff

The outgoing Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, has formally handed over authority to his successor, Major General William Agyapong, in a ceremony at Burma Camp.

A guard of honour parade marked the transition, with 98 troops from the army, navy, and air force participating. General Oppong-Peprah, who oversaw the GAF for several years, was bid a heartfelt farewell by the military community during the event.

Ministry of Defence officials, senior military officers, and other dignitaries honoured General Oppong-Peprah’s leadership with citations and gifts, acknowledging his distinguished service. The farewell was followed by a formal pulling-out ceremony to commemorate his retirement.

In his address, General Oppong-Peprah expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and others for their support throughout his tenure. He also urged the GAF to continue its transformation and to support the new CDS in his efforts to lead with professionalism and dedication.

The ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Inspector General of Police (IGP), as well as other key figures from the military, security agencies, and government.

Earlier, a separate pulling-out ceremony was held for the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, who handed over to Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu.
