Ghana’s football governing body has dismissed national team coach Otto Addo following a string of underwhelming performances, marking a significant shift in leadership ahead of the next World Cup cycle.
The Ghana Football Association said the decision takes immediate effect, citing concerns over the team’s recent form. The move follows defeats in international friendlies against the Austria national football team and the Germany national football team, results that intensified scrutiny of the squad’s readiness for global competition.
In a brief statement, the association thanked Mr. Addo for his service, acknowledging his role in guiding the Black Stars through recent international assignments, including the 2022 World Cup.
His departure comes at a pivotal moment, with Ghana preparing for a challenging group-stage campaign that includes matches against the England national football team, Panama national football team and the Croatia national football team.
The association said it would announce a new technical direction, including the appointment of a head coach, in due course.
The leadership change underscores mounting pressure on Ghana’s football authorities to restore confidence in the national team and improve results on the international stage.
