The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into allegations that the Nima District Police Commander, ASP Asong Ayrakwa, publicly endorsed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during a recent gathering in the Ayawaso East constituency.

A viral video circulating on social media appears to show ASP Ayrakwa chanting “We will win,” a phrase that some have interpreted as support for the NDC’s campaign, sparking concerns over his impartiality.

In response, the Greater Accra Regional Police held a meeting with representatives of both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from Ayawaso East and North constituencies. Both parties reportedly dismissed the accusations and called for a measured approach.

The NDC’s Ayawaso East Constituency Chairman, Mohammed Ramne, defended ASP Ayrakwa, claiming the video was manipulated. “This district commander has worked tirelessly for peace in Nima. For someone to doctor a video to imply he’s saying the NDC will win—God will punish the person,” he said.

An NPP representative also downplayed the incident, suggesting the phrase “we will win” might refer to a broader aspiration for peace. “The comment doesn’t mean NDC or NPP will win. Peace will win,” the representative said.

However, Greater Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Arhin Kwasi Annor stated that, despite the appeals, the command would conduct an impartial investigation into the matter. “You say he was talking about peace—that is your interpretation. We will conduct our own investigation,” he said.

The police command has committed to a thorough inquiry to ensure transparency and maintain public confidence in law enforcement.
