In a passionate address, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, founder and leader of the Movement for Change and Ghana’s former Minister for Trade and Industry, urged a swift and peaceful resolution to the escalating tensions between Ghana’s Supreme Court and Parliament.

Speaking not only as a presidential candidate in the upcoming December 2024 general elections but also as a seasoned political, Mr. Kyerematen called the impasse “unwarranted, unjustifiable, unproductive, and unhealthy for our fledgling democracy.”

With just a little over a month left before Ghanaians head to the polls, Mr. Kyerematen emphasized the urgent need for unity and adherence to constitutional principles.

He described the standoff as “grandstanding” by both institutions and highlighted the importance of respecting the separation of powers, which, he argued, should reinforce—rather than challenge—Ghana’s democratic framework.

Addressing the press on Thursday October 31, 2024, the former minster explained that “The concept of separation of powers and checks and balances between the various arms of government are two sides of the same coin and logically reinforce each other,” Kyerematen said, stressing that these principles should guide the resolution process.”

As Ghana stands at the cusp of a critical election, Mr. Kyerematen called on the Judiciary, Legislature, Executive, and citizens to work toward peace and democracy, underscoring his commitment to a stronger, unified Ghana.

“God bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong,” he concluded, reminding Ghanaians of their shared goal: a stable and democratic future.
